National Library Kolkata invites applications for the following posts:
Additional Director General (IT Systems and Operations)
Pay Scale: Rs.13.5 lakh per annum (payable monthly)
Qualification:
Master’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent in Computer Applications
OR
Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science or equivalent Degree/ Associate-ship from DRTC or INSDOC with specialization in Computer Applications in Libraries
b) 15 years’ professional experience in Corporate Sector/ Government organization, autonomous body or university in the area of database/ system management/ software development and computer based information storage and retrieval systems.
Desirable:
a) Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Applications (for Masters’ Degree holder in Library & Information Science)
b) Practical experience of Library automation and networking, software development and planning and execution of computerization projects in Libraries or Archives.
Job Details:
The National Library, Kolkata a Subordinate office under the Ministry of Culture, is the largest repository of books, periodicals, manuscripts, government documents etc. on India. The library is seeking a qualified person for the position of Additional Director General (IT Systems and Services). The incumbent will be overall in-charge of IT infrastructure and applications. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, installation and maintenance of Computer and Communication Systems in the library. IT hardware and Software selection, network administration, web management solution and services; and IT support to various units of the library. He / She will report to Director General, National Library.
Additional Director General (Library Services)

a) Master’s Degree in Library Information Science or equivalent Degree/ Associate-ship from DRTC or INSDOC with specialization in Computer Application in Libraries and
b) 15 years’ experience preferably in libraries with Documents of a multiple nature (e.g. manuscripts, maps and prints, rare books, official documents, books and serials in multiple languages, microforms and multiple units e.g. children’s library, science and technology, bibliography, reprography, conservation, microphotography, laboratory etc.)
Desirable:
a) Degree/ Diploma in Library Networking or Database Development from a recognized University/Institute
b) Experience in Computer applications in libraries
c) Knowledge of regional and foreign languages.

The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and managing library operations and services, collaboration with national and international institutions; collection development in close coordination with subject experts and users’ groups, subscription to online bibliographic as well as full text databases and development of digitized collection etc. He / She will report to the Director General, National Library.
