The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 and is a deemed university fully funded by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. The TISS offers 16 masters’ programmes in a range of socially relevant inter-disciplinary areas of Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, Management, Labour Studies and Habitat Studies. It has a strong M. Phil. and Ph. D. programme. A high degree of freedom and autonomy shape the positive work ethos and creativity in the Institute facilitating strong linkages between education, research, field action and dissemination. The institute provides significant space and resources for basic and policy research; and has research collaboration with some of the best universities and institutions across all continents.

1. Professor
No. of Posts: 3
Pay scale: Pay Band of Rs.37,400-67,000 with Academic Grade Pay of Rs.10,000.
Essential Qualification:
A i) An eminent scholar with Ph.D. qualification(s) in the concerned/allied/ relevant discipline and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 publications as books and/or research/policy papers.
ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National level institutions/industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level.
iii) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process.
iv) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation 2010 in Appendix III.
OR
B An outstanding professional, with established reputation in the relevant field, who has made significant contributions to the knowledge in the concerned/allied/ relevant discipline, to be substantiated by credentials.

2. Associate Professor
No. of Posts: 10
Pay Scale: Pay Band of Rs.37,400-67,000 with Academic Grade Pay of Rs.9,000.
Essential Qualification:
i) Good academic record with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned/allied/relevant disciplines.
ii) A Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).
iii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry excluding the period of Ph.D. research with evidence of published work and a minimum of 5 publications as books and/or research/policy papers.
iv) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process with evidence of having guided doctoral candidates and research students.
v) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation 2010 in Appendix III.

3. Assistant Professor
No. of Posts: 17
Pay Scale: Pay Band of Rs15,600-39100 with Academic Grade Pay of Rs.6,000
Essential Qualification:
1. Good academic record with at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the 7 point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E and F at the Master’s Degree level, in the relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. A relaxation of 5% will be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks at the Master’s level for the SC/ST category candidates, and to the Ph.D. Degree holders who have passed their Master’s Degree prior to 19th September 1991.
ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET.
iii) Candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/Institutions.

4. Programme Coordinator, NSS
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs.15600-39100, Academic Grade Pay Rs.8000
Essential Requirements:
Master’s Degree with Ph.D. in Social Work/ Extension Education/Social Sciences. Applicants should have adequate experience of organizing NSS/other youth programmes and must have the basic skills for imparting training to the NSS functionaries. Experience as a trainer in youth work /community work and relevant publications in this field and/or research will be considered as additional qualification. The person should not be more than 50 years of age at the time of selection. The appointment is for a period of three years and extendable by one more year. The Selection Committee at its discretion may relax the conditions of requisite basic qualification and the age limit.

5. Assistant Professor-cum-Community Organizer, NSS
No. of Posts: 2
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs.15600-39100, Academic Grade Pay Rs.6000.
Essential Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Social Work/ Extension Education/Social Sciences. Should have at least 2 years experience in organizing NSS and other youth programmes. Any other additional qualification and experience in youth work, community work, publications, research and training shall be considered as desired qualification. The person should not be more than 40 years of age at the time of selection. The appointment is for a period of three years and extendable by one more year. The Selection Committee at its discretion may relax the conditions of requisite basic qualification and the age limit.

6. Counselor
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400.
Essential Requirements:
M.A. in Social work or Counselling Psychology with 10 years of experience in counseling adolescent students. Should have strong leadership qualities and administrative skills, written and oral communication skills and ability to plan and conduct training programmes.

7. Health Officer, Tuljapur Campus
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Essential Requirements:
MBBS degree recognized by the Medical Council of India. Must have completed Compulsory Rotating Internship. Working knowledge of Marathi and Hindi languages.

8. Field Work Coordinator
No. of Posts: 2
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Essential Requirements:
Master’s degree in Social Work with 15 years experience in the relevant field. Should have strong leadership qualities and administrative skills, written and oral communication skills, ability to coordinate and supervise field work of social work students, write project proposals, engage in research and write report. Should have proficiency in English, Hindi, and Marathi languages.

9. Deputy Librarian, Tuljapur Campus
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Essential Requirements:
(i) A Master’s degree with 55% of the marks or its equivalent grade in Computer Science / Computer Applications / Statistics / Mathematics (with Statistics) / Operations Research / Physics or Economics (with Statistics) / Commerce (with Statistics) of a recognized university or its equivalent, (ii) Should have three years (two years for SC/ST candidates) experience of electronic data processing work, out of which at least one year experience should be in actual programming on computer and also in handling Social Science research data analysis.
Desirable:
(i) Doctorate degree in any of the subjects mentioned in ‘Essential Qualification’.
(ii) Formal training in computer programming/system design/analysis;
(iii) Knowledge of one or more programming languages (to be indicated).

10. Assistant Librarian
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs.15600-39100, Academic Grade Pay Rs.6000.
Essential Requirements:
1. A Master’s Degree in Library Science / Information Science / Documentation Science or an equivalent professional degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and a consistently good academic record with knowledge of computerization of library/Digital Library Management.
2. Qualifying in the national level test conducted for the purpose by the UGC or any other agency approved by the UGC.
3. However, candidates, who are, or have been awarded Ph.D. degree in accordance with the “University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree), Regulations 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET.
4. Preference will be given to candidates with PG Diploma in Digital Library or PG Diploma in Library Automation & Networking.

11. System Analyst-cum-Programmer, Tuljapur Campus

Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Essential Requirements:
(i) A Master’s degree with 55% of the marks or its equivalent grade in Computer Science / Computer Applications / Statistics / Mathematics (with Statistics) / Operations Research / Physics or Economics (with Statistics) / Commerce (with Statistics) of a recognized university or its equivalent, (ii) Should have three years (two years for SC/ST candidates) experience of electronic data processing work, out of which at least one year experience should be in actual programming on computer and also in handling Social Science research data analysis.

12. Deputy Registrar (Fin & A/C)
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.7600. With 5 years experience in the post of Deputy Registrar, the Pay Band is Rs.37400-67000, Grade Pay Rs.8700.
Essential Qualification/Experience:
A Master’s Degree or qualifications recognized as equivalent thereto in the faculty of Commerce / Management / Finance from a recognized University or its equivalent with at least 55% of marks or its equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC seven point scale, OR Chartered Accountant, along with 9 years’ of experience as Assistant Professor in the AGP of Rs.6000 and above with experience in educational administration, OR comparable experience in research establishment and/or other institutions of higher education, OR 5 years’ of administrative experience as Assistant Registrar or in an equivalent post, in the areas of Finance and Accounts. Certificate/Diploma in Business Administration will be an added qualification.
Desirable:
Should have a strong background in finance and possess substantial general management experience at a middle management level and should be highly proficient in computerized accounting and financial management systems. Should also have proven expertise in working and leading the teams. Possess good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interface with multiple constituencies – students, teachers, staff at all levels, government, media and public. Should also posses sound knowledge of prevalent national standards, statutory provisions and good practices with respect to financial management & accounting, taxation, MIS and ERP solutions.

13. Assistant Registrar (Academic)
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Essential Qualification/Experience:
(i) Good academic record plus Master’s Degree with at least 55% of the marks or its equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC seven point scale.
(ii) Eight years relevant experience in responsible supervisory positions of which at least three years in the immediate lower Pay Band Rs.15600-39100 with Grade Pay Rs.5400 in research establishment and other institutions of higher education. Candidates must be familiar with and worked in computerized administrative systems and possess strong knowledge on virtual platforms in academic programme delivery.

14. Assistant Manager (Publications)
No. of Posts: 1
Pay Scale: Pay Band Rs. Rs.15600-39100, Grade Pay Rs.5400
Essential Qualification/Experience:
Master’s degree from a recognized university in India or abroad, with at least 55% of the marks or its equivalent grade in any discipline.
Preferred Qualification:
A master’s degree in communication/public relations/journalism with specialization in marketing, writing and editorial skills. A minimum of two years in publishing, either in editorial/marketing. Candidates must be familiar with computerized administrative systems and processes.
Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of DTP prgrammes like CorelVentura, CorelDraw, Adobe Indesign, and QuarkXPress, etc.

General Conditions:
The Institute reserves the right to:
(a) relax any of the requirements with reference to age and experience in exceptional cases and/or in the case of persons already holding comparable positions, on a regular basis, in a University/research institution of repute,
(b) invite persons for interview who may not have applied for as per the above procedure, (c) to fill up vacancies arising,
(d) not to fill up any of the vacancies advertised;
(i) Since applications received may be short listed, merely possessing the prescribed qualifications and the requisite experience would not entitle a person to be called for an interview;
(ii) No queries or correspondence regarding issue of call letters for interview/selection of candidates for the post will be entertained at any stage and canvassing will lead to the candidate being debarred from consideration for the post;
(iii) Reservation and relaxation in age and work experience for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates are applicable as per Government of India rules;
(iv) Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed III A.C. Rail fare, to and fro, by the shortest route, on production of railway tickets. The crucial date of determining the qualifications and length of experience shall be 25-12-2010, i.e., the closing date for receipt of applications. Selected candidates are required to teach in TISS programs in Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati, and liable to be transferred to any of these locations. Persons in employment should apply through their employer, or attach ‘No Objection Certificate’ without which no applications will be entertained under any condition.

How To Apply:
The Demand Draft (Account Payee Only) of Rs.300/- for each post should be drawn in favour of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. The bank drafts should be valid for six months. No Postal Orders will be accepted. For SC/ST/PWD candidates the fee is not applicable. If a candidate desires to apply for more than one post, he/she should make a separate application for each post with fee. The candidate should clearly note that the Institute would not be responsible for non-receipt of their application or any delay in receipt thereof on any account. The completed applications together the required enclosures should reach the Deputy Registrar (Pers. & Admn.) on or before 25-12-2010.
